historic Fox Theater, Oakland

Fox Theater

The historic Fox Oakland Theater, located just down the street from The Uptown, opened on October 27, 1928, featuring the newest sound technology and showing movies as well as live theater productions. The Fox Oakland Theater borrowed from Hindu architecture and included a mezzanine as well as a balcony, seating 3,335 people. The Fox Oakland became a city landmark in 1978 and in 1979 was named to the National Register of Historic Places. Currently under restoration, the theater will be the future home of the Oakland School of the Arts and one of downtown Oakland's premier entertainment venues.
